Alcohol Rehab in Los Angeles

When it comes to choosing an alcohol rehab center, finding the right location can play a big part in the healing process. Alcoholism is a profoundly disabling disease, and relapse rates are high. A study published in Addiction found that alcoholics who sought help through a professional treatment program were more likely to sustain their recovery during the three years after rehab. Finding a rehab center that offers compassionate, holistic care increases your chances of staying sober.

Los Angeles, California, has long been on the cutting edge of addiction treatment. The first luxury alcohol rehab centers were founded in California, a state known for its inspiring natural beauty and abundant cultural offerings. However, alcohol treatment in Los Angeles involves much more than elegant accommodations or beautiful surroundings. The Golden State is a leader in Dual Diagnosis recovery, which is the treatment of individuals with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. If you’re searching for an exclusive rehab program for yourself or a loved one, Los Angeles is the ideal place to start your journey to recovery.

The Toll of Alcohol Abuse

Alcoholism is one of the leading lifestyle-related health risks in the United States. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, alcohol abuse ranked third in the list of preventable causes of mortality in 2000, with 85,000 deaths attributed to this disease.[i]

Heavy drinking has been associated with an increased risk of many chronic health problems, including the following:

  • Liver disease
  • Hypertension
  • Heart failure
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer (especially of the mouth, throat, breast, liver and colon)
  • Nerve damage
  • Dementia
  • Gout
  • Pancreatitis

Alcoholism exposes you to a higher risk of motor vehicle accidents, accidental falls, drowning and violence. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that everyday 28 people die from an alcohol related accident. In 2015, there were 10,265 deaths from vehicle crashes involving alcohol in the U.S.[ii]

In addition to its toll on your physical health and safety, heavy alcohol consumption can affect your mental status and emotional well-being. Chronic alcoholics have a higher risk of dementia, depression and anxiety than the general population. Because drinking and mental illness often coexist in the same individual (needing Dual Diagnosis treatment), it can be difficult to tell whether alcohol is the cause of a psychiatric disorder or vice versa.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism estimates that around 12percent of individuals who suffer from a mood disorder are dependent on alcohol.[iii] In people with bipolar disorder, the incidence of alcoholism is even higher—16 percent of people diagnosed with bipolar I or bipolar II also struggle with alcohol addiction. In Los Angeles, integrated rehabilitation programs help patients recover from alcoholism while addressing hard-to-treat psychiatric disorders like bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia and borderline personality disorder.

Choosing a Rehab Center in LA

When you start your search for a recovery program, you’ll realize that you have numerous options to choose from in the Los Angeles area. However, not all rehab centers provide equally effective care. As you compare your options, consider a facility that offers the following features:

  • Psychiatric assessment
  • Individualized treatment plans
  • Highly credentialed addiction specialists
  • Integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders
  • Comprehensive aftercare support
  • A compassionate, supportive atmosphere
  • A variety of holistic therapies
  • Inspiring surroundings
  • Comfortable accommodations

Why should you consider a luxury treatment center? The philosophy behind luxury alcohol rehab is that spacious, beautifully appointed settings provide the optimal environment for recovery. Spectacular settings, spa amenities, organic meals and holistic therapies can help to nourish the mind and spirit as well as the body. When you’re removed from the chaos and stress of your daily life, you can focus completely on your healing process. Private rehab facilities may cost more than publicly funded rehabs or community-based programs, but the investment in your physical and emotional health is well worth the price.

Convenience is another factor to consider when you’re selecting a program. Los Angeles is a major center of business and transportation in Southern California. Alcohol rehab centers in Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and other nearby communities are located only a matter of miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Bob Hope Burbank Airport, downtown LA and Hollywood.

If you’re coming to California from another state or even another country, it’s easy to get to any rehab center in the Los Angeles area from LAX. Intervention services, sober companions and travel support are available to help you get your loved ones into the rehab center of your choice.

An Oasis of Healing

Southern California is known for its dazzling ocean vistas, spectacular mountains and lush canyons.

In secluded enclaves like Malibu, you’ll find an oasis of personal growth and healing. Known as a hideaway for movie stars and other celebrities, this jewel of a community has 21 miles of coastline and numerous private and public beaches. Alcohol use is prohibited on Malibu’s public beaches, making them the perfect setting for sober recreation. The peaks and canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains offer a stunning site for hiking, adventure therapy or contemplation.

Residents of this friendly beachfront community cultivate physical, emotional and spiritual health. Therapeutic practices like yoga, meditation and outdoor exercise are part of daily life in this exclusive area.

Outpatient Options

outpatient programOutpatient alcohol rehab centers in Los Angeles provide intensive treatment on a non-residential basis. During the day, you can attend counseling sessions, classes or group meetings while returning home at night to spend time with your loved ones. Outpatient treatment centers fill several important roles in the rehab process including the following:

  • They provide detox and rehab services to clients in the early stages of alcoholism.
  • They offer aftercare for recovering alcoholics who have graduated from a residential rehab facility.
  • They provide medication monitoring for clients who are using prescription drugs like naltrexone (ReVia or Vivitrol) or disulfiram (Antabuse) to support their recovery.
  • They offer counseling and educational services to the family members of recovering alcoholics.

How do you know if outpatient alcohol rehab is the best option for you? Outpatient recovery can be highly effective for alcoholics who are physically and mentally stable and who do not need 24-hour monitoring during the detox phase. If you’ve been abusing alcohol for a long time, you may be at risk of seizures, delirium, fever or hypertensive episodes as your body withdraws from this drug.If you’ve been through rehab in the past or you have a serious coexisting health condition, your admissions counselor will probably recommend residential treatment.
